Alberto Campo Baeza

Born in Valladolid, from the age of two he lived in Cádiz, where he saw the Light. He is Emeritus Professor of Design at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), where he has been a tenured professor for more than 40 years.

He has taught at the ETH Zurich, the EPFL Lausanne, the University of Pennsylvania, the Bauhaus of Weimar, Kansas State University, CUA University in Washington, the École d'Architecture in Tournai, Buffalo University, the Barcelona School of Architecture, and the New York Institute of Technology. He currently directs a postgraduate course at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Spain.

He has lectured worldwide and received major honors, including the Torroja Award for his Caja Granada, the UPM Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal, the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Piranesi Prix de Rome, the Gold Medal of Spanish Architecture, the Spanish National Architecture Prize, and the Daylight Award for Architecture.

He is an International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He has received honorary doctorates from the Universidad San Pablo CEU (Madrid), the National University of Rosario (Argentina), the Università della Svizzera Italiana (Mendrisio), the Ion Mincu University of Bucharest, and the Lusíada University of Lisbon.

His built works range from the Turégano, Gaspar, and De Blas houses and the House of the Infinite in Cádiz, to the BIT Center in Mallorca, the public space Between Cathedrals in Cádiz, the Caja Granada Savings Bank and the Museum of Memory in Granada, the Benetton Nursery in Venice, the Zamora Offices for the Regional Government of Castilla y León, the French Lyceum Library in Madrid, the Robert Olnick Pavilion in Coldspring, New York, and the Smart Center for the Children of Armenia Fund in Armavir.

His theoretical works have been published in various texts, and monographs on his work have been published by Thames & Hudson, Rizzoli New York, Gustavo Gili, Munilla Lería, Electa, Corriere della Sera, and Arquitectura Viva.

He has exhibited his work at the Crown Hall of IIT Chicago, the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza, the Urban Center in New York, the Church of St. Irene in Istanbul, the Tempietto di San Pietro in Montorio in Rome, the MA Gallery of Toto in Tokyo, the MAXXI in Rome, the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York, the Fondazione Pibamarmi in Vicenza, the Oris House of Architecture in Zagreb, the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Design Museum in Taiwan, the College of Architects in Madrid, and the Casa de la Arquitectura in Spain.
