Amanda Levete

Amanda Levete is a Stirling Prize-winning architect and founder of the architects AL_A. Amanda trained at the Architectural Association and worked for Richard Rogers before joining Future Systems as a partner in 1989, where she realised ground-breaking buildings including the Media Centre at Lord's Cricket Ground and Selfridges department store in Birmingham.

In 2009, she founded AL_A with directors Ho-Yin Ng, Alice Dietsch and Matt Wilkinson. The diversity of her leadership team brings a richness of thinking and possibility that is played out in the studio's culture, practice and designs. The directors work together as a team of equals on every project, combining conceptual flair with technical excellence.

AL_A's designs are conceived not just as buildings, but as urban propositions. Spaces that promote reciprocity between nature and neighbourhood; projects that express the identity of an institution, reflect the ambitions of a place, and hold the dreams of a community.

Recently completed projects include the V&A Exhibition Road Quarter in London (2017), the V&A's largest building project in over 100 years; MAAT, the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology in Lisbon (2016); Central Embassy in Bangkok (2017); the Media Campus for Sky in London; Wadham College at the University of Oxford (2021); Maggie's Southampton (2021); and the expansion and redevelopment of Paisley Museum in Scotland.

In 2017, Amanda was recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list and awarded a CBE for services to architecture. In 2018 she was awarded the Jane Drew Prize, in 2019 she was elected an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and in 2021 she was made a Royal Academician. Amanda is a trustee of the V&A, a regular radio and TV broadcaster, writes for a number of publications and lectures around the world as an internationally recognised cultural commentator.
